
Exercise - Everyday should include a minimum of 20-30 minutes of exercise, which promotes good health and in the case of people suffering from depression or anxiety can be as effective as some anti-depressant medications. Side effects like a more toned physique will be your reward; leave the impotency at the pharmacy.
Lead with the Good Foot - Positivity is contagious. By starting a conversation with positive words and phrases like "Good Day",you will more often than not elicit a positive response. Include a smile, they're contagious too.
Be Nice - Be kinder than necessary. Everyone you meet is going through their own personal battle. Contribute to their fight with positive words and you will reap the benefits as well.
Treat every night like it's Thanksgiving - Before bed every evening make a mental list of three positive occurrences from your day. Keeping positive thoughts in your mind will help you sleep better, which will promote better sleep, reducing stress and contributing to the next morning's attitude and energy.
The "Frank the Tank" Effect - Even is something isn't funny, laugh anyway. The act of laughing as well as smiling produces endorphins in our body which are your body's natural anti-depressants. Fake laughs and smiles trigger the same endorphins. If you need help laughing at something you think is unfunny, picturing Will Ferrell in Old School as Frank the Tank always does the trick for me; instant laughs.
It's the little things that count, so count 'em up - It's so easy to to rush past the small blessings in our lives and get stuck on the bigger, more daunting tasks at hand. Take a breath and appreciate the little moments of happiness; the sound of your significant other's voice, the perfect mix of wasabi & soy sauce, or when your turn signal completely syncs up with the song in your car.
Get your outdoors on - Reconnecting with nature reminds us that we are all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Escaping the noise of everyday life will provide much needed relaxation, which decreases the number one driver of negativity: stress.
Reflect on positive events in your life - Think back on the occurrences in your past that make you feel joy, accomplishment, empowerment or enchantment. Recalling these situations will produce those same feelings as you relive them.
Its Always Sunny On The Jersey Shore - This is a very simple trick. When life's got you down, remember at least you're not in that "Situation". Also known as the "Life isn't that bad" technique.
Move on and then move up - Don't let something you have no control over get you down. There are many things that happen in your life that you can't change. Your favorite sports team will lose every now and then you might get a bad hair cut; get pissed, but get over it. Life isn't about what happens to us, but how we react to it. The quicker you move on the more time you will have to enjoy the good stuff.
These simple tricks can change your entire attitude towards life. O ya, and when you meet someone, give 'em a hug instead of a handshake, it's all about spreading the LOVE.
